Vertical Omega VSJ843QR Juicer Review

I decided after 8 years, it was time to retire my juicer. It still worked well, but was very noisy, hard to clean and I kept having to stop the machine to empty out the pulp.

Healthy Juicer

My Old Noisy Juicer

Juicers fall into 2 categories, Centrifugal and Masticating. I started out with a centrifugal Juicer, the least expensive of the juicers on the market.

I Had To Clean this mess with my old juicer!!

If you don’t have a juicer and you want to make a healthy drink, check out my Smoothy recipe.

How a Centrifugal Juicer Works

The food was then pushed into a mesh chamber covered in teeth, where it was ground to a pulp. The spinning motion drew the juice out of the pulp where it was funneled out of the juicer through a mesh filter. The pulp collected in the chamber and had to be removed as I juiced. It was pretty hard to clean those sharp teeth.

Trying to juice green leafy veg was a challenge. The plunger would constantly get stuck when I pushed it through. Everything else had to be cut long and thin so that it would fit. The stainless steel container that caught the juice constantly vibrated off the juicer, so I had to hold it in place. And finally the teeth pulping the veggies were destroying the vitamins so I had to drink the juice immediately if I wanted to get the maximum benefit nutritionally.

After extensive research, I found the juicer I wanted, the Omega VSJ843QR.

My original order did not go through, even though I got a confirmation, so I waited patiently for 2 weeks. I finally called and had to re purchase the unit. I then had to call for a third time, because I was told it would be there in 5-7 days. After 2 weeks I called and insisted they get the unit to me in the next few days or I would cancel.

It finally came, but had no cleaning instructions. If I hadn’t placed another call to Omega, I would have had no idea how to clean this correctly. I have made cleaning video for anyone who has one of these or decides to get one.

I was surprised how few components there were and how everything was pre-assembled. There were just 2 small boxes to unpack, and here were the contents.

Assembly

It couldn’t have been any easier. All I had to do was put No. 1 onto No. 2. There are two little red arrows to align, and that was it.

Here is another video showing you how to assemble the chamber and all the parts. There are a few things to watch out for and you will have no problem getting it working every time.

How a Masticating Juicer Works

With a Masticating juicer, the fruits and vegetables are crushed and squeezed through an auger.  The slower speed reduces the oxidation of the food, so the nutritional yield is maximized. The pulp is continually ejected from the machine, so large amounts of juice can be made without cleaning.

The unit has an Auto Clean function. This is a flap of silicone that rotates on the inside of the chamber as the strainer spins. It makes the chamber easy to clean.

Vertical Omega VSJ843QR Juicer Review

The first juice I drank from this juicer blew my mind. I had used my old juicer for 8 years and I hadn’t realized how lumpy and stale and earthy the juice was until I used my new juicer. The juice was so smooth, pulp free and fresh. It really tasted so good. I have to say this juicer gets a 10/10 for taste. I had to close my eyes and force the juice down before. The juice from this machine is delicious.

How to use the juicer

      • After washing all your fruits and vegetables, cut them into pieces small enough to fit into the spout (the hopper chute).
      • Slowly juice the greens first, pushing them gently through with the pusher. Follow with the fruit and vegetables.
      • When you juice carrots, it may jam. Use the reverse function and the carrot will pop back out again.  This juicer does not do well with carrots but it is wonderful with everything else. Even beets!

Cleaning

Clean by rinsing in warm water one part at a time until the entire unit has been cleaned. On the under side of the pulp outlet is a silicone stopper, called the extraction seal. Pull this out and use the brush to get all the pulp out. Run water through the pulp outlet until it is clean. Replace the stopper.

Make sure the round silicone valve at the bottom of the chamber is clean and in position before you reassemble. Take it out every time you clean and make sure it is fitted correctly when you replace it.

Try to clean your machine as soon as you have used it so the vegetable matter is still wet. It will then come off very easily. If it takes you a few hours to clean your juicer, just soak the chamber first, with all the works still inside. Set it in bowl and cover with water and all the dried vegetable matter will loosen up again. Now cleaning will be a breeze.

The Verdict

Delicious Juice. Quiet. Easy to use. Easy to clean. Fits under the counter for storage.

I am sure there are cheaper juicers out there, but we wanted the best. It’s an investment in our health. We actually saved the cost of the juicer in the first month we had it. When you buy only fruits and vegetables, you can save a ton of money.

I love this juicer. We started out with a 15 day juice fast that was easy to stick to. The juice was so tasty and energizing that we never felt hungry. Well perhaps occasionally for the first 3 days, but after that it was easy. My husband lost 21 lbs with ease. We have juice for breakfast and lunch every day now.

Vertical Omega VSJ843QR Juicer Review

  • The *NEW* Omega Vert, Model VSJ843QR Juicer, low speed 43RPM squeezing juicer system.
  • The new motor rotates at 43 revolutions per minute (RPM), approximately 50% the speed of the original vertical masticating (low speed) juicers.
  • The tighter fit tolerance of the new dual-edge auger strains more juice and breaks down fiber to a palatable level for a smoother, nutrient-dense juice.
  • This gentle squeezing action keeps healthy enzymes intact; reduces heat build-up, delays the oxidation process, and increasing the juice’s shelf life.
  • Squeeze juice from fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, even wheatgrass. Make nut milks.
  • Automatic pulp ejection, so you can juice continuously.
  • The AUTO-CLEANING system keeps the screen clear, increasing the machines efficiency. After you are finished juicing, the AUTO-CLEANING system minimizes the clean-up process.
  • The vertical design is compact, contemporary and productive. With the Omega VSJ843QR, form and function combine to give you the highest degree of extraction and the healthiest possible juice. The VSJ843QS, Juicer is the newest, lowest speed vertical masticating juicer in Omega’s offering.
